Session Two: Meeting the goal and needs of Deaf Maori Akonga.

"we must go back to our past and reclaim our past so we can move forward; so we understand why and how we came to be who we are today"

I particularly enjoyed Carl's sharing of the creation and early myths. Key ideas I take away fromCarl's presentation:

  • Being "Maori" is about the goodness in your heart
  • 42% of our students are Maori
  • Less that 5% of our staff are Maori
  • We need to increase the access to Maori adults/role models... How???  Whanau!
  • Te Rautaki Maori- innovation, knowledge creation, providing pathways for students, providing support.
  • Providing increased educational outcome for Maori students
How can I apply what I have learned?
  • Share the focus Kapahaka being a source of creditation with the teacher of K.P.
