Goal 4: Professional Reading

“To keep up to date with the latest research in Eduction and reflect on how this might impact on students in my caseload”

Background Information
It's been a considerable time since I last did any independent research into Eduction, the majority of which occurred during my teacher of the deaf training in 2007. I should like to try to start a pattern of refreshing my knowledge of trends and hopefully this practice will present a positive impact on my teaching.

Action Step 1: Look at compiling a list of suitable readings.
Resources Needed: Library resourcespeers
Measureable Outcome: "I will have selected a set of readings to look at and reflect on"
Completion Date: 13th July

Action Step 3: Term Two/Three reading
Resources Needed"Apps for Classrooms" - ULearn via iTunes (10 week reading course - Dr Harry Dickens)
Measureable Outcome: I will have completed the readings and made an e-journal entry reflecting on the paper and how it might affect my teaching.
Completion Date: Completed.  Posted blog entry: 26th September 2014

Action Step 4: Term Four reading
Resources Needed: "- article still undecided-" ...   looking towards a google docs paper / possibly completing the google accreditation test.
Measureable Outcome: I will have completed the reading and made an e-journal entry reflecting on the paper and how it might affect my teaching.
Completion Date: ongoing

Evaluation
  • I feel that this personal goal was the most challenging simply due to the time restraints with a busy term. Initially the goal was specifically focussed on deaf ed, but I altered it to include a wide range of topics and eventually settled on something that would be of assistance to me directly in the face of ongoing questions relating to iPad apps and inquiries.
  • The first reading was actually a course, self led, with a predicted time allocation of 10 weeks. This timeframe was unrealistic and as I was limited to the odd hour each week, I  expanded the time frame to include two terms.
  • The material covered was fairly useful, although much of the material was aimed at absolute beginners. It was useful to remind myself that many of the RTDs currently working with iPads need to be treated as such.
  • Specific evaluation/reflection on the blog dated 26th September.
