A long trip up from Franklin at 5-30 had us arriving at 8-30am in time to participate in the powhiri. I had been practising "Te aroha" in NZSL and was looking forward to signing it. Unfortunately we learned that the Tangata whenua had chosen it and I was left copying others with an unfamiliar wiata.
I need to have a second song learned in case of such situations in the future.
