"What is evidence" workshop - @ Novotel

The next set of appraisal courses started up today. KDEC had our usual cohort of senior teachers present. Crammed into a small room, we embarked on the process of understanding what 'collecting evidence' meant...

My big questions for the session:
  1. How many examples of evidence are needed for each criteria
  2. What time frame does the evidence apply to?
  3. Can evidence be used/applied to multiple criteria?
Reflections from the session:
  • This appraisal process in not small doses at regular intervals, but an ongoing constant process/discussion.
  • Appraisal is about three audiences: My professional leader, Me and the Teachers council.
  • Every day we use TRC but if a we need to look at gaps or unsatisfactory practice, then we would be looking at Professional Standards.
  • Performance management goals should be linked to learner outcomes where appropriate. How will this affect my own PD goals??? (iPads / google shared resourse)
  • I need to start including my feedback ( student voice, tutorial sessions feedback etc) in my evidence collection.
  • The document "Tataiako" will be a great resourse to go alongside the RTC to add a specific focus on achieving success with our Maori students
  • Student Outcomes needs to be the main focus of evidence.
